Introduction
Welcome to the ALKEBULAN FEST, a vibrant two-day celebration of African culture, heritage, and unity! This unique event will bring the spirit of Africa to Bucharest, transforming a Bucharest’s park into a dynamic hub of music, dance, art, food, and community. “Alkebulan,” the ancient name for Africa, means “Mother of Mankind,” bringing together people from all walks of life to experience the beauty, creativity, and depth of African cultures.
With five stages—one grand Main Stage and four smaller, themed stages—alongside workshops, food stalls, bars, shops, and much more, the festival promises something for everyone!

Main Stage
The heart of ALKEBULAN FEST, this stage will feature renowned African musicians, bands, and performers who will bring the energy of Africa to life with electrifying performances. From Afrobeat and traditional folk music to contemporary African sounds, this stage will pulsate with the rhythm of Africa all day long. Expect mesmerizing headliners, special appearances, and unforgettable moments as you experience the true power of African music and dance. -
Smaller Stages:
- Drumming Stage
Immerse yourself in the powerful sounds of traditional African drumming. Hear expert drummers and participate in interactive drumming sessions where you can learn the art of this ancient musical tradition. - Dance Stage
Feel the spirit of Africa through movement! This stage will showcase live performances of diverse African dances, including traditional, modern, and Afro-fusion styles. Visitors can also join in dance workshops to learn popular African dances. - Art & Culture Stage
Dive into African history, storytelling, and visual arts. On this stage, you’ll find live demonstrations of traditional African painting, sculpture, and craft-making, alongside discussions on African heritage, identity, and modern-day artistic expression. - Community Stage
Designed to foster dialogue, this stage will host discussions, panels, and workshops around themes like African fashion, contemporary issues, and the global African diaspora. It will also feature live performances from up-and-coming artists and community groups.

Throughout the two days, the festival will offer a wide range of interactive workshops led by experts in various fields, giving attendees the opportunity to learn about and engage with African traditions, practices, and arts.

Feel the heartbeat of Africa by learning to play traditional drums like the djembe and the talking drum. Workshops will cater to all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned percussionists. -
African Hairstyling:
Discover the beauty and artistry of African hair culture through braiding, twisting, and styling workshops. Experts will demonstrate various African hairstyling techniques, exploring the symbolism and cultural significance behind them. -
African Art & Craft:
Join hands-on art workshops where you can create your own pieces of African-inspired art, including beadwork, painting, and textile crafts. Learn about the materials, techniques, and stories behind these age-old traditions. -
African Dance:
Move to the rhythm of Africa in dance workshops that will teach you popular traditional and modern African dance moves. No prior experience is needed, and everyone is welcome to join! -
African Culture:
Gain insights into African history, cultures, and traditions through a variety of workshops covering topics such as African spirituality, customs, and the continent’s diverse cultures. Expect storytelling, film screenings, and discussions with African scholars and community leaders.
Food & Drink: A Taste of Africa
What’s a celebration without delicious food? ALKEBULAN FEST will feature numerous food stalls and bars offering traditional African dishes, snacks, and drinks. Explore the vibrant flavors of African cuisine, from spicy jollof rice to aromatic tagines, grilled meats, and freshly made flatbreads.
Don’t miss the chance to try popular African drinks, including fresh coconut water, ginger drinks, and hibiscus tea. The festival will also include bars offering a mix of African-inspired cocktails and other refreshments.
